Moltex Eco Nappies Mini

Moltex Eco Bio Degradable Nappy Mini Size

The outer protective layer of the Moltex Eco nappy is biodegradable, whilst the inner of the nappies are compostable and have been composted successfully for many years.

Moltex Eco nappies contain a mix of wood pulp, polyacrylate and cellulose. Polyacrylate is a super absorbent polymer (SAP) which will soak up and hold large quantities of water.

The Good Environmental  Choice Award (GECA) is the only environmental labelling program which indicates the environmental performance of a product from a whole product life perspective. Moltex Eco Nappies are the only disposable nappy licensed in Australia by GECA to carry the Good Environmental Choice Ecolabel www.geca.com.au.

Australia's #1 Eco Nappy

Moltex Eco Nappies look and work like conventional disposable nappies and are as effective at keeping your baby dry as the leading disposable nappy brands. No additional padding is required for even the wettest periods e.g. overnight, so there are less resources used and subsequently disposed of unlike other nappy options.

Safer for your baby and our environment:
The impact a disposable nappy has on the environment is directly related to the substances used in the manufacture of the nappy, the amount of resources used and how well the nappy works i.e. how many are needed in any one day and of course the method of nappy disposal.   We believe that the Moltex Eco Nappies are the best disposable nappies available for your baby and our environment, and here’s why:

Biodegradable Backsheet - the breathable backsheet is made from 100% biodegradable material.
Biodegradable Gel - 20% of the absorbent granules in the core of the nappy has been replaced by specially developed environmental granules based on maize starch.
100% Chlorine Free - manufactured using 50% unbleached woodpulp and 50% chlorine free bleached woodpulp which means no toxic residues from bleaching agents that could harm your baby's skin.
Tea Leaf Extract in the Core - Moltex Eco Nappies use pure natural tea leaf to help with odour control. The tea leaf has also proven very effective in protecting against fungi, viruses and yeast, ie nappy rash. It contains cell-constructing substances eg vitamin A, vitamin B and vitamin C which are essential for cell metabolism.
No TBT - TBT (tributyl tin) is an environmental pollutant with a hormone-like effect.  The smallest concentrations of TBT can harm children's immune systems and impair their hormonal system.
No Unnecessary Brighteners - The majority of conventional disposable nappies use whiteners to make them more aesthetically pleasing. Moltex Eco Nappies do not include this processing and so avoid exposing your baby’s skin to these unnecessary chemicals.
No Lotions or antioxidants - Babies are born with a natural protective layer on the outside: the skin. The skin is however also absorbent, especially if exposed to chemicals for a long period of time. Synthetic lotions are put into some nappies. These are like oils and are meant to be waterproof but become rancid over time. Special chemicals, called antioxidants, are added to lotions to make them stay fresh longer. The Moltex Eco Nappies have no lotions, and no need for antioxidants.
100% Degradable Packaging - the packaging is 100% degradable and has perforations to easily open along the top for re-use as a compost or bin bag.
Moltex Eco Nappies are Compostable - Moltex's Eco Nappies do not need to be added to landfill sites. The inner contents of the nappy have proven to breakdown to make excellent compost within 8-10 weeks in a wormery.

What is the absorbent material in the Moltex Eco Nappies?
Moltex Eco nappies contain a mix of wood pulp, polyacrylate and cellulose. Polyacrylate is a super absorbent polymer (SAP) which will soak up and hold large quantities of water.
Why do they include SAP?  SAP significantly improves the absorbency of the nappies. A nappy which does not contain SAP will not have the same ability to keep your baby dry. This means that either the baby is left with a wet bottom or more nappies will be required and subsequently disposed of.  Many tests have been conducted on the effects of SAP in sanitary products. Some of these have been funded from a government-led consortium, which established that sodium polyacrylate is non toxic.  Also the minimum super-absorbent material used in the nappy gives excellent water retention properties to the compost which is especially relevant to our climate and water shortage issues.

Is the wood pulp bleached?
A test was run by the manufacturer to create a nappy with 100% unbleached woodpulp but they were found to be unabsorbent. As a result the wood pulp in the Moltex Eco Nappy is 50% unbleached and 50% tcf (totally chlorine free) bleached. The organic matters in the emissions (effluent) are low chlorinated and have a significantly lower environmental impact. Low chlorinated organic matters are also formed naturally and are easily biodegradable

Is the eco nappy biodegradable?
The outer protective layer of the Moltex Eco nappy is biodegradable, whilst the inner of the nappies are compostable and have been composted successfully for many years. Read one woman's composting story which was published in the IrishTimes Newspaper.

How quickly do they break down in a composter?
The speed at which the Moltex Eco Nappy will break down depends on the type and size of composter used.  Nappies should be added at a rate that your particular compost bin can handle.  The most efficient way to compost Moltex Eco Nappies is using earthworm composting often referred to as 'vermicomposting'.  The nappy will not fully break down, leaving the velcro tabs and parts of the inner lining.  Once the majority of the nappy has composted you can take the fragments out and put them in your regular waste bin. Think of the huge reduction in volume you send to landfill!!
